The AIM EVO4S Data Logger

EVO4S is the evolution of the well known EVO4.
It maintains the same connection logic, one connector per channel, but with a completely redesigned internal electronic board, fully compatible with the last generation of AiM dashloggers and with the new powerful Race Studio 3 software.

A Wide Range of Data Sources

EVO4S samples all the information you need: data coming from your vehicle ECU via CAN, RS232 or K-line, from the internal accelerometers and gyro, from the GPS08 module included in the kit. Also from analog/digital inputs, external expansions as well as predefined math channels. Sensors can be connected to 5 configurable analog channels, to the RPM input and to 2 wheel speed inputs.

Display Data for the Driver

To visualize in real time all the data, EVO4S can be connected to the visor GS-Dash or to the Formula Steering Wheel 3, our professional steering wheel for Formula and Sports cars.

Sensors

Many sensors can be connected to the EVO4S via:

  • 5 analog channels with configurable 12 bit 0-5 Volt, 0-500 mV, 0-50 mV inputs or thermocouple input, used to sample data coming from temperature, pressure, suspension and other kinds of sensors.
  • 2 speed inputs, which allow to monitor the different wheels behavior.
  • 1 RPM input, which manages square wave signals transmitted by the ECU, or pulse signals picked from the coil command (low voltage).

Internal 3 Axial Accelerometer and Gyro Sensor

A built-in inertial platform lets you have the most powerful system for understanding oversteering, understeering, banking, etc.

Digital Output

EVO4S features a LOW SIDE type (switch to ground) digital output. You can configure it in order to turn it on or off depending on the value of the analog or digital inputs, ECU values, expansion values, GPS information or math channels.

For example: Coolant temp creeps above 200 deg F, then switch on radiator cooling fan. Perfect for the following scenarios... enduro pit stops where the driver has one less task to worry about during a driver change. Automatically switching on the fan when drafting down a straight and your coolant temp rises from lack of air flow. For those times when you warm your car up in the morning and forget to turn the fan on.

CAN Output

With the CAN Output you can send messages directly to an existing CAN network in order to improve the range of vehicle control possibilities.

 

  Race Studio 3

Race Studio 3 is free to download and included in this kit. It is the heart of your MXL2, managing all your activities related to:

Configuration
With Race Studio 3 you can create, modify, delete, import and export configurations with all channels, ECU drivers, Math channels, Display Pages, Digital outputs, Alarms, Shift Lights and all the expansions you need. You will also be able to manage the map of all your racing tracks and compare two laps watching the video recorded by SmartyCam HD cameras.

 

Analysis
With Race Studio 3 you can also analyse all data recorded by MXL2 and downloaded to your PC: graphs, histograms and tables will help you study your performance, providing an objective support to avoid mistakes and improve performances.

OBD2 Plug Harness Option: This option is plug and play into your OBD2 port and will retrieve data from your vehicle's K-line.

CAN Lead Harness Option: This option requires "tapping" into your ECU CAN via CAN+ and CAN- twisted pair.

    Note: The difference between the two options is just a separate harness. Each harness can be purchased separately if there is a need to switch Data hookups in the future.

    Data Hub
    AiM data loggers have a single AiM CAN input/output. (Not to be confused with the ECU CAN network) The Data Hub allows you to expand the AiM CAN network to allow the use of multiple AiM peripherals such as LCU Lambda Controller, GPS08 Module, TC hubs, SmartyCam, and Channel Expansion.  

     

    Channel Expansion:
    It permits to add 4 0-5Volt analog channels for pressure, temperature sensors and potentiometers. Two of these channels can be configured to receive digital inputs like wheel speed. 

    TC Hub:
    It adds 4 K thermocouples.

    LCU-One Lambda Controller:
    Wide band Lambda controller LCU-One, with Bosch LSU 4.9 probe, providing all Air/Fuel data, lambda value and exhaust gas temperature, allows to perfectly tune the carburetion.

    SmartyCam HD Camera Rev 2.1:
    The on-board cameras that overlays on videos the data sampled by your logger.

    Memory Module:
    The Memory Module is a small SD Card holder that can be connected via CAN bus to your AiM logger in order to record the data during your tests.
