Ohlins Services: Volvo Polestar
Most factory shocks cannot be serviced — when they wear out, you replace them. Polestar-optioned Volvos are different. That suspension was built with Öhlins Road & Track dampers, which are designed to be serviced.
So you can renew your suspension rather than buy a new set from the dealer, which runs upwards of $7,000.
What we service
- Rear shocks — the most common job by far. Leaking rears are what brings most people here.
- Front struts — the core shock service is the same as the rears, with a little more work to dismantle and some additional inspection of the guide bushings.
- Strut guide bushings — not commonly needed, but we do come across them worn out, and they are serviceable.
As a rule of thumb, if one side is leaking the other is not far behind. It is a good idea to service both at the same time.
Replacement options
Occasionally a damper comes to us that simply cannot be repaired.
We do not supply complete new dampers, but we do offer replacement cores. We replace the main damper body and piston shaft, and reuse your existing strut housing, rear bushings and spacers.
That is why replacement through us is a very different proposition to replacement at the dealer — you are not buying the whole assembly again, only the part that has failed.
